About
3DREAMS@SG (3-Dimensional Real-time Atmospheric Monitoring System at Singapore) is a cutting-edge LiDAR-based initiative advancing air quality observation and forecasting in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Building on the success of 3DREAMS@HK, which began in Hong Kong in 2018 as the first real-time LiDAR monitoring system in the region, this project now marks the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Led by Principal Investigator Assoc Prof Steve Yim, the system provides real-time, high-resolution vertical profiles of aerosols and wind patterns up to 12 km above ground level, offering second-by-second insights into air pollution dynamics and urban atmospheric processes. Unlike traditional ground-based or satellite methods, 3DREAMS@SG captures co-located measurements of aerosol transport and wind, enabling detailed analysis of pollutant dispersion and enhancing air quality forecasting with unprecedented accuracy.
The 3DREAMS platform has already contributed to over 10 peer-reviewed publications, establishing a strong scientific foundation. In parallel, the team has forged robust collaborations with both the Hong Kong and Singapore governments, supporting the integration of LiDAR-based atmospheric insights into environmental policy and public health planning.
